In addition to our research, The Foundation for Plastic Surgery supports ongoing
medical training and education of the next generation of plastic and reconstructive
surgeons.
Plastic surgery requires 16 years of training, the longest of any surgical
specialty. This includes:
• 4 years - undergraduate education
• 4 years - medical school education
• 5 years - surgical residency
• 2 years - plastic surgery residency
• 1 year - specialized training in hand, craniofacial, cosmetic or microvascular
surgery.
