MIGUEL
Miguel's cleft lip was repaired first. The palate was repaired months later to reconstruct the abnormal anatomy and allow him to begin speech patterns in a normal fashion. Not only has Miguel's appearance significantly improved, but also breathing and feeding problems (regurgitation) have been eliminated.
MARWA
Marwa, a 12-year-old Iraqi girl suffered the loss of her nose during the initial bombing of Baghdad. In a series of reconstructive surgeries performed at UCLA her nose was completely reconstructed allowing her to re-enter society.
KYLE
Kyle was born with Pierre-Robin Syndrome (an extremely small and recessed chin with upper airway obstruction and a cleft palate). Kyle underwent a distraction (performed intra-orally) to advance the recessed jaw and chin, which not only dramatically improved his appearance but also more importantly allowed him to breathe normally without the need for a debilitating tracheostomy.
